Sardines

This is a watercolour monoprint which is a technique I have only recently discovered. Briefly it involves painting the image onto acrylic blocks which have been roughed up with sandpaper and prepared with gum arabic. The watercolour needs about 3 coats and when it is absolutely dry watercolour paper is soaked through and drip dried so that the sheen on the paper is lost but the paper completely damp. The plate is then placed on the paper and the image spoon-rubbed. Most of the watercolour will leave the plate and the resulting image has a fascinating finish and unusual quality which really appeals to me.
