Just returned from a teaching cruise on Cunard’s Queen Victoria. Met a great group of guests keen to try their hand at watercolours. Classes of around 25-30 for each gathering and some really good artwork produced during the two hours of each session. I have this pile of sketchbooks in the studio, about 70 in total, dating back to the mid ’90s. My early sketchbooks are filled with holiday sketches and take me straight back to the time and place.
I think when you sit and sketch a place you take so much more in than if you just take a quick snap on your camera and move on. Of course my quandary is what to do with them all. In the first place

Just returned from a voyage on the Azamara “Quest” sailing from the Canaries to Cape Town via many fabulous destinations, not least being St Helena a little pimple of an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
