I have this pile of sketchbooks in the studio, about 70 in total, dating back to the mid ’90s. My early sketchbooks are filled with holiday sketches and take me straight back to the time and place.
I think when you sit and sketch a place you take so much more in than if you just take a quick snap on your camera and move on. Of course my quandary is what to do with them all. In the first place
I have decided to go through each of them and decide which sketches are my favourite, or have a tale to tell, or have a treasured family memory lurking within. photographing each as I leaf through the pages.
Thereafter I hope to produce a book, but feel that some explanation of the relevance of each picture may illuminate the choice. That’s where it is going to get difficult! My other option is to use iMovie to make a film of the preferred pics and I could do a voice over. that doesn’t sound too easy either….anyway at least I have started so watch this space to see where it leads me. Meanwhile here below are a few of my very earliest sketches from a Scottish art holiday I enjoyed in the 90’s and a holiday in Aberdaron.
