We held the first Wirral Urban Sketching group meeting on Sunday and I have to say it was a great success! 25 people turned up at Birkenhead Woodside ferry, all from varied backgrounds in Art and all having found the announcement about the idea of the new venture in many different places. I made a brief introductory speech outlining what the intentions were for the group which met with universal approval and we had a draw for six sketchpads kindly donated by Wirral Society of Arts. Everybody then set to sketching various views. We were blessed with perfect weather and the variety of work was brilliant as well. We all met back on the top floor of the cafe at 1.00 and over coffees and teas lively discussion took place reviewing the sketchers’ work. It was as if we had all known each other for years not a brief few hours. Everybody departed looking forward to the next meeting in a month’s time.
